CORE has reached a new milestone of 30 million monthly active users. This follows already significant growth of CORE’s user base in 2020, as we only reported achieving 20 million monthly users in June 2020.
This usage growth is also reflected in a substantial improvement of CORE’s Alexa Global Rank. As of November 1, 2020, CORE is listed among the top 2,000 websites by user engagement, calculated from a combination of daily visitors and page views on a website over the last 90 days. In the beginning of December, CORE achieved 1,528 positions on the rank.
According to another metric, СORE ranks among the 20 most visited sites in Science and Education globally according to SimilarWeb as of December 2020.
With regards to new and returning visitors, autumn showed higher performance, especially when compared to the summer periods. This could be explained by the usual seasonal trends related. However, it is possible that CORE’s growth this year has been further accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic. As more researchers and the public work from home, CORE is becoming one of the prime resources for legally accessing research literature.
Our highest number of visits originate from Indonesia, the United States, Japan, Germany and Mexico.
As it has already been reported, the highest traffic in CORE was on Sundays, from 1 – 4 PM GMT.
When we look at the age overview, we see that CORE is more used by 18-24 years old users.
The vast majority of our users access CORE via desktop (64.7%), while 33.5% come via a mobile phone and 1.8% via a tablet. In fact, compared with June, we see an increase in the use of mobile devices.
